Election 2003: How the Turkish Cypriot community was
prevented from Expressing Their Political Will
Report on irregularities that occurred during
the December 2003, election process and during the subsequent formation of the
government by a coalition of RTP and DP. The election process has resulted in the obstruction of the expression of
the Turkish Cypriot community's will. This point should be well understood and repeated in all
platforms since it affects the solution process to the Cyprus problem.
The Cyprus Action Network is a grassroots activist organization
which seeks to improve the human rights conditions in Cyprus. Instead
of concentrating on the political aspects of the Cyprus conflict,
CAN wishes to address human rights violations which occur and are
not noticed because of the status quo on the island. We deal with
issues which range from freedom of the press, to minority rights
and education in an effort to create a genuinly independent homeland,
where all citizens enjoy freedom and respect of their human rights.
The Cyprus Action Network does not have a geographical basis; instead
it utilizes the internet and a non-hierarchical structure to operate
all over the globe. You may visit our contacts page to find out
specific contact information for a CAN representative close to you.
Membership is open, no dues are required, and all members enjoy
equal rights and recognition within the network. Note that CAN does
not discriminate on any basis.
The volunteers who form CAN participate actively in its quest to
achieve its goals. They are kept up-to-date about current events
in Cyprus, and they receive and propagate news from dependable Cypriot
sources in order to focus international attention to human rights
problems in Cyprus. Members act as points of contact in their region,
actively establishing contacts with local organizations, and establishing
connections with individuals or groups who wish to endorse the Cyprus
Action Network and its goals.
This website, apart from providing information about the Cyprus
Action Network, also serves as a central database of projects and
reports of CAN members. CAN has varius ongoing projects, and has
published reports and evidence about specific or generic human rights
issues in Cyprus. You may view, download and distribute these documents
freely, giving appropriate credit to the Cyprus Action Network and
the specific author(s).
