Cypriot Youth Can Take Over!

Turkish Cypriot youth organized under committe of "Operation Saving Our Future" inagurated a new campaign on December, 23rd 2002. Everyday a new person will announce his/her candidacy for presidency. They will share the same last name "Barishemensimdi" which means "PeaceNOW" but retain their firstname. Their birthdate is announced as number of years after 1974 which is when the division of the island occured.

Dogus Barishemensimdi (her real name is Dogus Derya), a student in Bosphorus University, Istanbul announced her candidacy this Monday, December 23rd. Her birthdate is four years after 1974 and her area of speciality is that she knows those who ruined this country very well. She promises the youth that she will return them their future. On December 24th, Ulas Barishemensimdi announced his candidacy, on December 25th, Serkan Barishemensimdi announced his candidacy on the same platform. On December 26th, Murat Barishemensimdi announced his candidacy on the same platform.

"Operation Saving Our Future" has a series of events planned. They call all Cypriots, specially the youth to join their march on December 26th, accompanied with a youth festival to Inonu Square to attend the Grand Rally organized by "This Homeland is Ours Platform". They also have more opennings for new candidates.

We proclaim as Cypriot youth everywhere:

GET OUT OF OUR WAY NOW!

As Cypriot youth realizing that in the coming three months there will be negative decisions made about our future. Therefore, we have begun "Operation Saving Our Future" aimed at forcing
1- Denktash and his followers who do not represent the Turkish Cypriot public to immediately leave active politics,
2- An agreement to be signed by 28th February based on Annan's latest plan according to our demand "A Solution and European Union".

As action committee for "Operation Saving Our Future", we decided to show our reaction to punish the "December 13th Sell-Out" planning a series of protests and working groups. Today, we proclaim to those who do not represent us, to the enemies of "A Solution and European Union", to the enemies of our people, to the chauvinists: "GET OUT OF OUR WAY NOW!"...

Young people, do not forget, during these days when our future is being built, we are one less person without you for our struggle to claim our political will until 28th February and raise our struggle for "A Solution and European Union". So we stress here once more that in this struggle to claim our future, to raise our hopes with common struggle, solidarity to form a a democratic, free future, we are ready to join all initiatives raising the demand of "A Solution and European Union" , specially those of "This Homeland is Ours Platform" and "Common Vision".

Our friend, the student, the worker, the farmer, the unemployed, if we do not want to emmigrate from our island, if we want to bring progress with our presence and identity, our unity is unescapable.

In this framework, it is imperative that you join our protest march which begins at 9:00am on Nicosia Bus Terminal marches to Inonu struggle.

We call all international youth organizations that they show international solidarity for our struggle to bring a free, united, European Union member Cyprus.

We call all organizations in Cyprus that we increase our struggle for the self-government of Turkish Cypriots.

Our people, youth is our future, we are going to the streets for our future, we want to hear your voice next to ours, we believe you will join us and increase our hopes together...
