[07] Great ecological tragedy in the occupied area of Lefka KIBRIS (16.04.02) reports that scientists from Turkey and Europe who visited the occupied areas examined the situation regarding the wastes of the Cyprus Mines Corporation (CMC) in the area of occupied Karavostasi village, near Lefka. The paper writes that "the scientists, who were struck with terror because of what they saw, warned that 'here a world ecological disaster is taking place'". The scientists said also that the mineral wastes in the installations of CMC cause very serious pollution. After they examined the barrels full with chemicals and metal wastes, which are spread all over the place, the scientists warned that if measures are not taken against this situation, both the people and the environment of the region are in great danger. The scientists noted the following: "The worst side of the metal wastes is that they appear after 10-15 years. Everybody here eats some acid, without even knowing it.".
